Hexagon Kitchen Backsplash in Cherry Hills Village

White hexagon tile backsplash in a Cherry Hills Village estate kitchen with walnut island and marble countertop

About This Project

This kitchen backsplash was installed in a Cherry Hills Village home during a full kitchen renovation. The tile is a 2-inch white porcelain hexagon on mesh backing, running the full length of the kitchen from countertop to the bottom of the upper cabinets. The hexagon pattern continues around the window and past the range hood, which required careful sheet cutting and re-alignment to maintain the pattern across the interruptions.

Sheet-mounted mosaic tile is more complex to install than it appears. Each sheet has a front-face paper or mesh backing that must be aligned at the seams so the hexagon pattern reads continuously — even a 1/16-inch offset between sheets is visible once the paper is removed. We dry-lay all sheets in sequence before setting any mortar and mark the wall with reference lines at every sheet boundary. The grout used here is a bright white unsanded grout at the standard 1/16-inch hexagon joint width.

What We Did

  1. Cleaned and primed the substrate; verified flatness across the full backsplash run
  2. Dry-laid all hexagon sheets in sequence and marked reference lines at each sheet boundary on the wall
  3. Set sheets in sections, pressing firmly for full mortar contact and checking alignment at each seam
  4. Grouted with white unsanded grout, removing paper backing carefully before grout set, then cleaned and sealed
