Bathroom Shower Renovation in Englewood
About This Project
This shower renovation was part of a full bathroom update in an Englewood bungalow. The existing shower was a tub-shower combo that had been retiled once before — the old tile had failed along the lower wall where the grout had deteriorated and allowed water behind the tile. We stripped the shower to the studs, replaced the water-damaged cement board, and started fresh with a proper waterproofing system before any new tile went up.
The wall tile is a 12x24 beige marble-look porcelain in a stacked pattern. The shower floor uses a pebble mosaic sheet tile for traction, and the recessed niche — framed during the substrate phase — uses the same pebble mosaic as an accent. The pebble tile requires a flexible, unsanded grout applied carefully to avoid staining the varied stone surfaces. We sealed both the floor and niche tile before grouting to protect against grout haze.
What We Did
- Demolished existing shower tile and removed water-damaged cement board and substrate
- Framed the recessed niche, installed new cement board, and applied liquid-applied waterproofing membrane to all walls and the shower floor
- Set 12x24 wall tile in stacked pattern from the shower floor up, with back-buttering for full coverage
- Set pebble mosaic floor and niche tile, sealed before grouting, then grouted with flexible unsanded grout
