Beige Marble Shower Installation in Sheridan

Shower installation in progress with beige marble wall tiles and pebble mosaic floor and niche in a Sheridan home

About This Project

This shower installation was part of a bathroom renovation in a Sheridan mid-century ranch home. The existing shower had a fiberglass surround that had cracked along the bottom. Rather than patch the surround, the homeowner chose a full replacement with tile. We stripped the surround, inspected the framing for moisture damage (finding some minor staining on one stud that we addressed before proceeding), and rebuilt the substrate with cement board before tiling.

The wall tile is a 12x24 beige marble-look porcelain set in a stacked pattern. The floor uses a river pebble mosaic sheet tile, which provides good traction and a natural texture contrast to the large-format wall tile. The recessed niche was framed during the substrate phase and tiled with the same pebble mosaic. In Sheridan homes, the wall framing is often 2x4 at 16-inch centers, which is adequate for a tile shower as long as the cement board is properly fastened and the waterproofing is continuous.

What We Did

  1. Removed fiberglass surround; inspected and treated minor moisture-affected framing before proceeding
  2. Installed cement board on walls and shower floor; applied liquid-applied waterproofing membrane to all surfaces
  3. Set 12x24 wall tile in stacked pattern; framed and tiled the recessed niche with pebble mosaic
  4. Set pebble mosaic floor tile; grouted all surfaces with matching grout and sealed after cure
